- There is a wonderful article on Rene Dubos titled Friend of the Good Earth by Carol L. Moberg, which is excerpted from her book of the same title. The article appeared in 1989 for The Rockefeller University Research Profiles, a series of scientific profiles that were published quarterly, from 1980-1990, by the Rockefeller University. Each issue featured the research and achievements of an individual Rockefeller University scientist.

The Rockefeller University Press, 2006 February 20, discusses how in 1939, René Dubos discovered gramicidin—the first clinically tested antibiotic agent. This discovery helped revive the stalled interest in penicillin and launched the era of antibiotics.
